Love Made These Lines
(Cher Lynn)
I was looking at my mom's hands one day, and I started thinking about how many diapers they had changed, how many bottles of formula they had filled, and how many times they had comforted, disciplined, patted, smoothed, braided, and waved to us over the years as we all grew up. I thought to myself, "Every crease and line in her hand was made by teaching us and loving us every day", and viola..the song just popped out of my head and on to the paper. :)
Lines
He was looking through the attic on a cold November day
He found a box of pictures I had stored away
Mom you looked so pretty, Dad looked just like me
You both looked young and happy but scared as you could be
I told him how young we were when he was born
We struggled each day of our lives to have a happy home
Your dad and I were healthy before he died
Now my body’s older and let me tell you why
These lines around my eyes are from squinting in the sun
At all the baseball games you played in, Son
These wrinkles on my hands are from holding you tight
As I rocked you to sleep when you were sick at night
Chorus
Every crease and every wrinkle tells a story in your life
First smile, first steps, first day of school
Teaching you wrong from right
Some were caused by worry, others caused by tears
But all were made by loving you all these happy years
A lot of years, a lot of time
A lot of love made these lines
As he touched my hands and folded his over mine
He understood the creases were a testament of time
A tale of generations--- one to tell his own
When they see their Dad get older they’ll know just how they’ve grown
